The First Shiloh Baptist Church of Buffalo, New York is seeking a Minister of Music. This position will work with the Senior Pastor to offer an uplifting worship experience each Sunday. The Minister of Music will lead a few talented choirs, select, rehearse and play the service music for worship, meet with the pastor to coordinate weekly worship, help plan special holiday services, and work with the children’s choir on an occasional basis.

The 92-year old predominately African American church located in downtown Buffalo, has a rich legacy of serving Christ, the City of Buffalo and its surrounding communities.  The congregation has a membership of nearly 400, with 17 diverse ministries supporting the church, its members and community.

Our church is seeking a Minister of Music to play and teach appropriate music, while guiding the continued growth of the Music Ministry.  We seek someone with proven administrative skills and experiences in developing music and arts ministries including youth, young adults and seniors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Minister of Music
a)
Ensure musical coverage and or accompaniment for all worship experiences, including church visitations, on Sundays for which he/she is responsible.
b) Practice and provide direction and accompaniment for the Psalms Choir, Women’s Chorus, Male Chorus, Youth Choir and Mass Choir; ensure that each Choir is prepared spiritually and technically when called upon and provide extra rehearsals when required for special events
c)  Recruit, train and supervise other music staff and choir directors, including interns and volunteers; develop vocal, choral and instrumental music ministries.
d) Develop and maintain choir schedules for all worship services;  Provide notice to choirs, at least two weeks in advance, of changes in regular rehearsal dates and/or regular Sunday service singing dates.
e) Be knowledgeable of the Church Year Calendar  and insure liturgical appropriateness of musical selections; offer special musical presentations suitable for the overall enhancement of the music program of the church.
f) Attend continuing education events for personal and program development.
g) Meet with the Pastor regularly for consultation, review and evaluation; provide  the Pastor with timely notification of  anticipated absences and obtain approval of all absences and vacations.
h) Oversee purchase, maintenance, repair and tuning of all church musical instruments, obtain all necessary music copyright clearances and oversee purchase, filing and use of all printed church music.
i) Plan and administer budgets for traditional music, music administration and honoraria.
k) Encourage high standards of musical excellence and spiritual commitment in all participants.
